  • Discussion display issue and solution (Monday, February 14, 2011)

Please note the following Discussion issue and the solution.

In Discussion threads where there are more than a few posts, Blackboard is overlapping the links with the rest of the page. Then when you click a link, it brings that post up behind the other links.

    Solution:

Users will need to clear their cache in their browser. Although your browser may be slightly different if you have a different version, below are the instructions for doing this in Firefox and Internet Explorer. For other browsers, please check the browser’s help files.

    Firefox 3.6:

At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Tools menu, and select Options...

    Select the Advanced panel.

    Click on the Network tab.

In the Offline Storage section, click Clear Now.

Click OK to close the Options window.

    Internet Explorer 8:

At the top of the Internet Explorer window, click on the Tools menu, and select Internet Options...

Under the General Tab - Browsing history - Click the Delete Button.

Place checkmarks in the “Temporary Internet files” and “Preserve Favorites websites data” boxes.

    Click the Delete Button.

Click OK to close the Options window.

  • Important change in length of time courses will be available to students (Thursday, October 21, 2010)

We have instituted a process where the Blackboard courses are now being end-dated.  This means that a date is now being set in all courses after which the course is no longer available to students.  The end date takes into consideration the need for students to access a course to work on their Incomplete.  If a student requests to be given access to a course after the end-date has passed, they will need to get instructor approval.  They will then need to forward that approval (if given) to DL@saintleo.edu   In this email students will need to include their name, student ID number, and the course ID that they wish to be given access to, along with the proof of that instructor’s approval.

  • New Withdrawal and Tuition Refund Policy (Thursday, August 26, 2010)
Beginning July 1, 2009, refunds of tuition for withdrawal from courses will be made according to the following schedule.*
Note: Does not apply to OCICU Students.
Details: • 100 percent tuition refund if course withdrawal occurs by the end of the add/drop period.

    • 75 percent tuition refund if course withdrawal occurs after add/drop and before the end of week two.

    • No refund for any course withdrawal after the end of week two.

*State laws in Georgia, Virginia, and South Carolina require exceptions to this policy for students enrolled at Saint Leo University’s Continuing Education centers and/or online programs in those states. Please click on the appropriate state for specific refund policy.

Laboratory and special course fees are 100 percent refundable if withdrawal occurs before the end of the drop/add period. After classes begin, laboratory and special course fees are non-refundable.

Refunds due students who have credit balances in their tuition account will automatically be issued within 14 days. Appeals regarding refunds shall be submitted in writing to the Office of Student Financial Services, MC 2097, Saint Leo University, P.O. Box 6665, Saint Leo, FL 33574-6665.

  • We are moving from Blackboard to eCollege beginning 2012SP1 (Thursday, November 17, 2011)

As part of our commitment to fostering student learning, we have recently completed a review of the university’s learning management systems, eCollege and Blackboard. This 9-month review process examined available tools, ease of use, and reliability of services, and determined that it would be in the best interests of everyone at Saint Leo to move to one system. Beginning in January 2012, all courses using a learning management system will be moved to the eCollege platform.

What does this mean to you?

    • One place for all course materials, regardless of how your course is being delivered (traditional, online, blended)
    • One system that is easy to use and has excellent reliability measures
    • A 24/7 help desk that is very responsive to student and faculty needs

To make sure you’re prepared, take a few minutes to go through the eCollege Student Orientation:

    Go to http://saintleo.ecollege.com

    User ID = newstudent

    Password = 77777

Once logged in, click on Courses in the upper left corner and you will see Student ORI eCollege Student Orientation

The orientation doesn’t take long but provides critical information on communicating with your instructor and classmates, submitting assignments, completing exams, and participating in discussion posts.

If you need assistance as you are working through the orientation, technical support for eCollege can be found within the course by looking for the Tech Support tab along the top of each page. This provides options for communicating via chat, email or telephone. The toll-free telephone number is 866-501-1636.

If you have questions about the review process, please feel free to contact Dr. Susan Colaric, Assistant Vice President of Instructional Technology (susan.colaric@saintleo.edu).

Faculty who have questions about the Faculty eCollege Orientation should contact Karee Parks (karee.parks@saintleo.edu).
